The Moonbloom planting calendar was created to help you in knowing when and what to plant in the month to create a simple, healthy planting cycle in your organic vegetable and herb garden. Especially in our busy lifestyles, it can be completely overwhelming. It’a simple method using the climate zones of South Africa, lunar cycles and companion planting. The basic theory behind the moon is to grow your above-ground crops when the moon is waxing and your below-ground crops when the moon is waning. The moon helps in a small way and how its effects gravity and thus water on Earth, and gets you into a lovely simple cycle and certainly gets you planting! Like I say to many folk, it is not the law, it’s a wonderful guide.

About

Honeymoon Farm is situated in Harkerville between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna on the beautiful Garden Route of South Africa. In 2001, Pieter and Gaye Boshoff, bought the 11Ha which was then an overgrown quarry, thick with a monoculture of Eucalyptus trees. With their 2 children, Isabella and Tristan, have transformed the piece of land using regenerative agriculture, cleaning up horrible dongas and making them into dams, planting 1000's of indigenous plants and trees, and creating a biodiverse ecosystem, bringing back the Knysna Loerie, Fish eagle, the Cape otter - just to name a few.

Free range eggs are collected every day. A varying Protea and Bluegum honey is harvested from February to April each year. The smallholding produces seasonal, organically grown and pesticide free, vegetables and herbs (culinary and medicinal). Dependent on the honey flow, bottles of honey can be purchased directly from the farm, as well as Moonbloom products, a wide variety of vegetable and herb heirloom seed and bulk firewood.

Gaye is a freelance graphic designer and operates from her studio on the farm. To upkeep a farm and be a deadline working mom, can be difficult, thus the Moonbloom lunar planting calendar was created in 2016 to simply, but concisely help her in her edible garden. Now the Moonbloom organic gardening products are sold nationwide, she offers workshops on the farm and writes gardening articles for the go!Platteland magazine.

Pieter owns Treepro, a highly experienced civil works company with 25 years on the Garden Route. All excess wood from jobs is churned into bulk firewood which can be collected from the farm. He also rents out light industrial property and owns Green Valley Storage units in Wittedrift. You can check it all out at www.treepro.co.za.
